Surface Of Treatment(Coating):
Steam Treated
This is currently the most common surface treatment for circular saw blades. The steam treatment creates a hard oxide layer on the blade and is the simplest “coating” available. It is used for general cutting applications, except for aluminum, copper, brass and their alloys.
Goldface (TiN – Coating)
The GOLFACE coating gives the blade a great surface hardness. The high oxidation temperature, together with other positive characteristics, makes it possible to work at cutting and feed rates approx. 50% higher than with an untreated blade. Cutting times are reduced and blade life is increased. GOLDFACE blades are suitable for cutting of mild steels (500 – 750 N/mm2).
Speedface (TiCN – Coating)
This is a multi-layer coating with a low friction coefficient that offers an excellent finish at very high cutting and feed rates. It can be used for hard steels (800 – 1000 N/mm2), for copper and brass alloys and for extremely abrasive materials where the phenomenon of “chip welding” can be a problem.
Bestface (CrN - Coating)
Characterised by a high surface hardness and low friction coefficient (the lowest of all), this coating is particularly suitable for cutting pasty materials such as copper, brass and bronze. Thanks to its high corrosion resistance this coating is also ideal for some plastics and applications where high temperatures and corrosion phenomena could develop.
Activeface
High performance coating for cutting high tensile strength materials, stainless steels and abrasive materials. Thanks to its high oxidation temperature (approx. 700°C) and low thermal conductivity, this treatment is suitable for dry-cutting at relatively high cutting speeds
How to choose shape of teeth
Appropriate choosing of teeth form is related to material and profile of work piece and, it affects tool life and safety.
There are 5 kind of teeth forms as following.
Regarding DIN 1840:
A : This is usually used for cutting mild steel which is easy to be broken and cut. This is accepted
2mm~4mm pitch or more.
AW : This is almost same as A, except for chamfering in turns. Nowadays, this is hardly used, then
A or BW are used instead of this.
B : Because it is changed straight part of A into curve, pocket of chip is bigger. So its pocket is bigger
than A and it is able to cut thick material
BW : This is almost same as B, except for chamfering in turns. This load is less than B, and it is
suitable to cut thick material.
This is applied to cut nonferrous pipe, profile and heavy metal solid bar.
Usually, A or B is used for CUTTER, and BW or C is used for SAW.
C : C goes by the name of HIGH-LOW form. There are two kind of different height teeth, and difference
of between two teeth is 0.15~0.3mm. It is cut both side on the high tooth face, and at the same time,
it is also removed chip. This is possible to be processed when the thickness of saw blade is proper
to be ground. This is used for cutting round solid bar, rectangle solid bar, heavy metal and thick pipe.
How to choose the right saw blade
Selecting the right saw blade is important if you want to get proper, smooth cuts on the material that you are going to use your saw on. There are steel blades, abrasive blades, high speed blades and diamond blades. Choosing the correct saw blade is dependent on which materials you will be using, the type of blade necessary and the size of the blade. For example, if you use steel blades on certain surfaces or material, it will dull the blade.
· The Process
- 1
Choose the correct size blade for your saw. If you don't do so, you will find that your the blade guard won't be cleared when you get ready to use the saw and won't give you the best service. There will not be any depth in your cut if you use a blade that is too small.
- 2
Choose a steel blade if you want to cut softwood. The sharpness of the blade can weaken when used on hardwood. If you want something sharper and durable than steel blades, go for High-Speed Steel(HSS) blades.
- 3
Choose between two types of circular saw blades-rip blades and crosscut blades. Rip blades, ideal to cut the grain of the stock, can do the job quickly but won't always give you the cleanest of finishes. Crosscut blades cut wide, using chisels or carbides, alternate between cutting wide left and wide right. Combination blades combine the benefits of cross cut blades and rip blades. These are common and have a variety of tooth counts from 24 tooth to 80-tooth.
- 4
Choose an abrasive blade, if you want to cut stones and metals. Choose diamond blades (having diamond tipped teeth) if you want to cut really tough materials like diamond, stone, and tiles.
- 5
Choose plywood blade if you want to only cut wood. The blades are made from high speed steel and have a good finish. Dado blades are also specific for a certain type of wood cutting, and are used on a table saw or a radial arm saw.
