Gilsonite is an additive for foundry sand prebends providing reduced smoke and other emissions.
The additive comprising a mixture iron oxide and highly volatile carbonaceous material, metallurgical coke. It uses as one quarter of the foundry sand prebend, the other three quarters consisting essentially of clays.
