PRODUCT DEscriptION
The driver's airbag is composed of multiple components. A gas cylinder, steel shell, airbag bag and vinyl airbag cover. When the airbag module receives the deployment signal, the ignition switch starts a chemical reaction, and then the airbag package is inflated within a fraction of a second. See the chemical composition of airbags.
There are many types of driver airbags. The most popular is that single-stage airbags have one plug or connector, while dual-stage airbags have two plugs and four wires lead to one connector. In addition, there are three-spoke and four-spoke driver side airbags. For an example of both, see the illustration above
Almost all new cars have airbags, which can save lives. They reduced the number of driver fatalities by approximately 14%, while passenger bags reduced the number of fatalities by approximately 11%. People who use seat belts may think that they do not need airbags. But they do. Airbags and waist/shoulder belts work together as a system, and one is not as effective without the other. The death rate of seat belt drivers is 12% lower, and the death rate of seat belt passengers is 9% lower.
Airbags provide extra protection for people using seat belts.
