Mechanically, chemically, thermally, electrically. you look at it. Alumina is simply the tops however.
These strengths pre-determine its use, for instance, in trigger insulators, pressure-resistant regulator parts, sliding and seal rings, axles, shafts, bearing shells and aerial shafts.
